Expert Opinion Services have been conducting Expert Witness Training workshops for the past 18 years, as an invaluable introduction to potential expert legal witnesses. The benefits of such training are evident to the experts, our clients and the courts.
Witness training is crucial to understanding your role and responsibilities when giving expert evidence. We also give you practical advice on working within the legal profession, including the rules and regulations that apply to different jurisdictions, what constitutes a good report, and how to format your report in a style suitable for legal consulting.
The core components of our expert witness training include the following topics:
- Overview of the litigation process: theory and strategy
- Role and structure of the courts
- Court etiquette
- Role of the expert
- Overview of the rules of evidence
- Report writing and communication skills
- Conflict of interest issues
- Necessary inclusions in reports
- Codes of conduct for expert witnesses
- The process of examination and cross-examination.
Our workshops are particularly useful to anyone involved in preparing expert reports that may be used for litigation and also for anyone who'd like some 'survival skills' in relation to giving evidence in court.
